An individual who laced candy with sedative and gave them to children at a summer camp in the area has admitted sexual offences against two children both nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at the facility in the summer month.

The senior citizen, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he stood at the judicial center on Friday.

However, he denied a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was involving a young boy.

The defendant was held in detention prior to a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, handling the case, described the criminal behavior to the judicial body.

She stated his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.

The man conducted a "treat game" with the children, Mrs Prior said, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were preparing to sleep and request they to consume candy "as quickly as they can".

She informed the proceedings Ruben had engaged in this activity with the children "over an extended period", and children had previously become sick the next day.

She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the youngsters being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had suspicions in recently.

The legal representative stated further: "In the summer" his stepson had concerns about what was going on, with valid cause.

"They resolved" to have a look in the individual's items."

The legal counsel explained objects including baby oil, ointment and medical needles were located, and his family member alerted the law enforcement about his worries.

She said the defendant continued to play the "sweet game" with six boys that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.

"Authorities" had not responded by that stage," she stated further.

The police watchdog, the police conduct office, had stated that it was examining Leicestershire Police's handling of the incident.

Mrs Prior stated the minors were struggling to walk due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson called the police again.

She said the defendant then conducted the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
